Driving Directions to Some Favorite Locations
Take Highway 23 north to the North Pompton Turnpike. Turn left onto Ryerson Avenue, then right onto Walker Avenue. Turn left onto Vincent Street to park; the wetlands are at the end of Walker Avenue.
Take Highway 3 east across the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers. Just after crossing the Hackensack, you will pass under Paterson Plank Road; move into the rightmost lane and exit onto the frontage road. You will pass a Sunoco and an Exxon station on the frontage road. Stay on the lefthand roadway when the frontage road splits (the righthand roadway leads to the NJ Turnpike).
You will then go under two overpasses in rapid succession. Immediately after passing under the second, take the righthand exit and curve around onto Harmon Meadow Blvd. Follow Harmon Meadow to the stoplight at the Sam's Club and turn left. Keep to the right at the next light, and park in the lot at Bob's Discount Furniture. The street address is 3 Mill Creek Drive, Secaucus; the coordinates are 40.79501471564566, -74.0508929566826.
From Watchung Avenue, turn south on Broughton Avenue and continue to Hobson Street. Turn right and take Hobson to its end; there is a parking lot on the right. There is also easy access, though less parking, from the end of Dewey, one street farther south, or from the end of Bessida, two streets farther north. Alternatively, turn south from Watchung on Clair Street, then walk across the playing field to the pond itself.
Take I-80 or I-280 west to I-287 south. Take exit 30A and merge onto North Maple in the direction of Basking Ridge. In 3/4 mile, turn left onto Madisonville Road; Madisonville becomes Lees Hill Road at the Passaic River. Half a mile after the river, turn right onto Wood Duck Way, which becomes Pleasant Plains Road. The Fenske Visitor Center is 4/10 mile ahead, on the left.
Leave the Garden State Parkway at Exit 125. Continue 3.6 miles on Main Street, then turn right onto River Road. The parking lot and picnic shelter are at the north end of River Road.
Leave the Garden State Parkway at Exit 98 and follow the signs for 138 East. Keep left to continue on Highway 35 North, also signposted as River Road. Turn left at K Street; parking is to your right.
To reach the SHARK RIVER INLET from the marina, take Highway 35 / River Road to 8th Avenue. Just after D Street, turn left onto North Lake Avenue and continue along the left bank of Silver Lake. Lake Avenue will become 5th Avenue; follow 5th Avenue to the beach and turn left onto North Ocean Avenue. There is street parking (abundant and free in the winter, scarce and expensive at other seasons) at the drawbridge.
Leave the Garden State Parkway at Exit 63 and follow Highway 72 east. Once on Long Beach Island, turn left onto Long Beach Boulevard. In about 1.6 miles, bear left onto Broadway. Parking for the light is on your right, at the north end of the island.
